Author: ClassNK
Genre: Guide
Edition: 1st
Format: PDF
Quality: eBook
Pages count: 44
Description: With worldwide attention on biofuels, ClassNK has received a number of
inquiries about the use of biofuels since about 2020. As for short or mid-term biofuel oil
trials on board, no troubles have been reported as of December 2023. However, the risks
associated with long-term use in the future are uncertain, and there is concern that some
kind of trouble may occur due to differences from conventional petroleum fuel oils.
Therefore, this technical guide describes the characteristics of biofuels and the
measures against possible issues that may occur when biofuels are used over a long period.
The technical guide also introduces the relevant stipulation required by MARPOL and
EU regulations and the future vision of biofuel use. It is to be noted that this technical
guide mainly covers the biofuels intended for use in conventional marine diesel engines.
